Easter fun with Miss Caithness! Thursday 9th April 2020.

9th Apr 2020

Hi everyone! Hope you are all well.

Today’s play along is all about Easter!

Picture 1: You will need a piece of card (I used part of a cereal box), a marker, scissors, glue, cotton buds, paint and some tinfoil.

Boys and girls, have a go at doing as much of this activity as you can. It’s great for little hands and developing those important fine manipulative skills.

You need to draw a round, egg shape on the card. It can be any size you want! Did you do a big one or a small one? Cut out your egg shape using your scissors. Cover the piece of card in glue. Stick a sheet of tin foil on top of your egg shape. Use your hands to fold the foil around the egg. Squeeze it hard so it stays on. Dip cotton buds into the paint and create patterns onto your egg. Cotton buds are small for wee hands to hold, which encourages the children to use that pincer grip. What patterns did you do? Zig zag/wavy lines/straight lines/spotty/swirls/heart?

Picture 2: You will need coloured card, markers and scissors.

First thing you need to do is draw around your one of your hands onto the card. Using your scissors, have a go at cutting your hand out – try not to snip any fingers off! How many fingers have you got on your hand? Can you count them? Count the fingers on your hand, when you get to finger number 3 (the tall middle one), cut it off! You need to fold in your thumb and fold in your wee finger. Using the markers, draw detail onto your hand to make your bunny face!

Picture 3: You will need coloured card, natural materials (leaves, flowers etc), glue and a marker.

Draw a bunny face onto your piece of card – eyes, nose, teeth, whiskers. Head out into your garden or out for a little walk along your street. Gather some leaves – what shape are they? What size are they? How many did you find? Gather some flowers – daisies, dandelions etc. What parts are on the flower? (petals, stem) Did you find anything else? Use your materials to finish off making the bunny face. You could stick them down with glue, or create a ‘temporary picture’ like we did in Nursery when we made Leaf Man.

Picture 4: You will need a piece of card (still using that cereal box!), natural materials, scissors and glue.

Draw an egg shape onto the card and cut it out using your scissors. Decorate your egg using some of the natural materials that you have found. What patterns did you make? Use your scissors and cut an egg shape out of one of your leaves. You can stick or create ‘temporary pictures’.

Picture 5: This is a yummy activity!

You will need shredded wheat or rice krispies, bun cases, chocolate and mini eggs.

  1. Break the chocolate into pieces – this is great for strengthening those little hands.
  2. Melt the chocolate. Talk about how it has changed once it was heated.
  3. Crush up the shredded wheat and mix them into the chocolate.
  4. Spoon the mixture into bun cases and put on 3 mini eggs.
  5. Wait for them to set – talk about how the chocolate has changed again,
  6. Enjoy!

Remember please do not feel any pressure to carry out any of these activities.

Send Mrs Dalzell and me through any pictures on see saw if you do choose to do any of the activities. Hope you have fun!

Stay safe and happy Easter!
